IRIS started with a simple question
Researchers at RIT/NTID asked, “Why can't we CONNECT DIRECTLY with Relay Services using our mobile device’s cellular number and skip all the apps & multiple phone numbers we need for access today?”
Our cellular devices connect us to others, to our homes and to the fast-changing world around us. Equivalent access allows Deaf, hard of hearing, Deaf-blind (DHHDB) people to keep pace in a world that's more and more connected each day.
Our strong industry partners understand the obstacles that the DHHDB face each day and helped develop IRIS at RIT/NTID alongside Deaf researchers with a vision to implement IRIS and make every cellular device accessible to DHHDB individuals
